Trino Garcia is an agent with New York Life and a member of the JVPNG community. His work centers on business owners, the people who built something and now need to plan around it.

He is a numbers person who keeps the conversation personal: first understanding the business and the people in it, then talking through the options in plain language.

Every business is different. These are the questions Trino most often helps owners think through. Nothing here is advice for a specific situation. It is where the conversation starts.

Buy-sell agreements

When a business has more than one owner, a buy-sell agreement sets out what happens to an owner’s share if they retire, leave, become disabled, or die: who may buy it, how the price is set, and how the purchase is paid for. Settling those questions early spares partners and families from deciding them under pressure.

Retirement plan design

Owners have choices about how they and their employees save for retirement, and each type of plan comes with its own rules, costs, and responsibilities. Trino walks owners through the kinds of plans businesses commonly consider and the questions worth asking before choosing one.

Protecting partners and key people

Many businesses depend on a few people. Key-person planning looks at what the business would need if one of them were suddenly gone: to keep operating, to steady lenders and customers, and to look after the families involved.

Trino also works with owners on the benefits they provide for themselves and their teams.
